Department of Justice, Government of Newfoundland & Labrador, 1979 -87
Advised the major client Departments. Negotiated, litigated, and advised on a number of significant construction contracts, and other matters such as insurance and bonding disputes. Dealt with Crown property acquisitions, expropriations and leases. Advised on legislation relating to public tendering, petroleum and dangerous goods. Appeared in court and in arbitration hearings on numerous occasions.

Undergraduate studies also included Economics, Engineering Law, Operations Research, and Statistics. Completed American Management Association sponsored course in Supervisory Management in 1972, and the Canadian Institute of Management's course in Accounting in 1974.

  • Councillor, Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland (APEGN) 1983 to 1985.
  • Examiner, Professional Practice and Ethics Exam, since 1985.
  • Member, APEGN ad hoc committee to review seminar programs and examinations related to national guidelines on Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental and Labour Relations issues, since 1995.
  • Barrister, Solicitor & Notary Public, Newfoundland, 1978 to present. Bencher of the Law Society of Newfoundland, 1986 to 1989. Served on a number of committees, including disciplinary investigations.

OTHER INTERESTS

  • Member of Faculty of Engineering at Memorial University since 1982. Formerly Assistant Professor (part-time) and latterly Adjunct Professor, and for 25 years instructed a course in Contract Law and Labour Relations. Continuing Engineering education by co-ordinating seminars on Construction Law, Mechanics Liens, Insurance and Construction Bonding.
  • Presently instruct the Professional Practice and Ethics seminar four times a year.
  • Served on the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Newfoundland & Labrador, which established the boundaries for the 1997 Federal Election, in 1995.
  • Proud owner of a beautiful 1951 Morris Oxford and belongs to the Wolseley 6/80 and MO Club. He is also a member of the Newfoundland Antique & Classic Car Club.
